The Wall Street Journal wants to know: Has the Bacon Bubble burst?

We are in the midst of a bacon bubble—and a growing number of chefs (some of whom quietly admit they helped inflate the bubble to begin with) say it’s about to pop. Bacon had a good run, but now it has gone flabby—used too much and too often, it’s lost its novelty and coated fine dining with a ubiquitous veneer of porky grease.

Here’s the recipe for bacon-flavored vodka ( got this from yesbutnobutyes’ post on the topic, which they got from somewhere else so I figure it’s okay to do this ):

1. Fry up three strips of bacon
2. Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar.
3. Optional: add crushed black peppercorns.
4. Fill the jar up with vodka. Cap and place in a dark cupboard for at least three weeks.(No need to refrigerate)
5. At the end of the three week resting period, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter to yield a clear filtered pale yellow bacon vodka.
6. Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.

Backstory

The seed for this song was planted December 2007. It sprouted in March of 2008, when we realized how good “Obama Bacon Man” sounded rolling of the tongue. This song grew legs, arms, and teeth in September of this year — we fleshed out the lyrics, Joachim flew out to Denver to record the video, and, now, we have Obama Bacon Man in the video-flesh.
