Home-made bacon gifts: Bacon-infused vodka
Posted by Joe on December 7th, 2008 filed in Bacon Awesome, Bacon Cooking, Bacon Drink, Bacon Gifts, Bacon Music, Bacon Photo, Bacon Recipes, General Bacon, Our BaconMy girlfriend made me bacon today. Not just bacon, no — bacon-flavored vodka. She didn’t just make it today, she made it over the course of the past three weeks. Which means if you’re interested in making bacon-flavored vodka for someone in your life for Christmas you’re too late. Sorry. But I encourage you to consider making it for them for some holiday in the future, like, hey, New Year’s Eve. People give bacon-themed presents to each other on New Year’s Eve. New soon-to-be tradition. Bacon Eve.
Here’s the recipe for bacon-flavored vodka ( got this from yesbutnobutyes’ post on the topic, which they got from somewhere else so I figure it’s okay to do this ):
- Fry up three strips of bacon
- Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar.
- Optional: add crushed black peppercorns.
- Fill the jar up with vodka. Cap and place in a dark cupboard for at least three weeks.(No need to refrigerate)
- At the end of the three week resting period, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter to yield a clear filtered pale yellow bacon vodka.
- Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.
