While I don’t support the Slate.com video’s thesis, I do support them using a clip of our Bacon Man video in their piece. You can watch it here:
You can read their post here (there’s not much more than the video though), and see the whole Obama Bacon Man video here.
Bacon Question of the Month: What’s your first bacon memory?

What’s your first bacon memory?
Mine is a little fuzzy — I remember being young, and being under the impression that bacon was a luxury food. Like candy, but rarer. When I was young I dreamed about getting older and to the point in my life when I could eat all the candy that I wanted (I imagined giant piles of it, with me and my friends plowing in). Funny thing: now that I’m an adult I don’t have piles of candy, but I do have boxes and boxes of bacon.

Home-made bacon gifts: Bacon-infused vodka

My girlfriend made me bacon today. Not just bacon, no — bacon-flavored vodka. She didn’t just make it today, she made it over the course of the past three weeks. Which means if you’re interested in making bacon-flavored vodka for someone in your life for Christmas you’re too late. Sorry. But I encourage you to consider making it for them for some holiday in the future, like, hey, New Year’s Eve. People give bacon-themed presents to each other on New Year’s Eve. New soon-to-be tradition. Bacon Eve.
Here’s the recipe for bacon-flavored vodka ( got this from yesbutnobutyes’ post on the topic, which they got from somewhere else so I figure it’s okay to do this ):
- Fry up three strips of bacon
- Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar.
- Optional: add crushed black peppercorns.
- Fill the jar up with vodka. Cap and place in a dark cupboard for at least three weeks.(No need to refrigerate)
- At the end of the three week resting period, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter to yield a clear filtered pale yellow bacon vodka.
- Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.
In-Flight Bacon: An idea whose time has come.

Yes, the economy is tanking. But know what? Gas prices are way low. That means airlines must have a bunch of extra cash in their vaults, right? And is there any better way to spend extra money than to spend it on bacon?
Bacon. Kids love it. Adults love it. It’s the Food of the Moment. Air travelers will love you for providing it.
I’m not talking about airport-lounge bacon, or pre-flight bacon. No, it’s in-flight bacon for the win. Hey Mr. Airline, want to set your service above that of your competitors? Want a competitive advantage? How about sizzling us up some bacon. Give us the choice of crispy bacon and chewy bacon, and we will hand over our hearts / travel dollars to you.

Video: The Story Of Bacon (1965 Hormel bacon documentary.)

See the inside of a bacon factory circa 1965! Found this video, The Story of Bacon, off of Reddit Bacon just now. It’s three minutes long, it was filmed back when pigs were honest, and it comes from Hormel, which means it’s not the most objective bacon documentary you’ll find.
You can find the full 30-minute “This is Hormel” video at the Internet Archive here.
